What is a Hague Convention assessment?
The 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction provides for the prompt return of children wrongfully removed to, or retained in, another country. Independent social work assessments assist the court in these proceedings — for example on a child's objections to return, their views and degree of maturity, or their situation where a grave-risk defence is raised (Article 13).
